About Us
The Motor Vehicles Department has been established under section 213 (1) of the Motor Vehicles Act, 1988. This is a Central Act applicable throughout the country. Motor Vehicles Department is mainly responsible for enforcing various provisions of this Act. Motor Vehicles Department is headed by the Transport Commissioner. The department has 45 offices in the State, one at each district. The district offices are headed by the Dy Regional Transport Officer, who work as the licensing & Registering Authority for the Districts. They also perform functions related to issue and renewal of permits, under delegated powers from RTA. The State is divided into 14 Regions, each comprising of 4 to 5 district offices. The Regional offices is headed by the Regional Transport Officers, who also works as the Secretary, Regional Transport Authority. The district offices are monitored by the Regional Transport Officer of the region. The Regional Transport officer, reports to the Transport Commissioner, Maharashtra State. |
